BRIEF History

The Missionary Sisters for the Poorest of the Poor (MSPP) a female religious Institute with no doubt has its daunting problems. Some of the problems that have survived civilization and advancement in technology especially in Africa are those of child neglect and abandonment, destitution, prostitution etc. This situation indeed is overwhelming in our society, it calls for urgent and selfless approach. It is therefore, in answer to this call for a solution to these problems that a young nun offered herself. Sr. Oresoa Selo Ojeme arrived Gwagwalada Abuja in Nigeria 1995. Not at the invitation of any individual, group or authority, but was driven by the obsession to live out the desire the Lord God has planted in her heart. She was in search of an inner fulfillment of a disturbing filial cord with destitute, helpless street children and the broken hearted. To fend for them, console them, to be their sister, to love them, to pray fervently for them. In 1995, MSPP. began in a rented apartment at Phase One in Gwagwalada Abuja Nigeria. The centre immediately became a Home for destitute, street boys, abandoned babies, unwanted pregnant young girls, prostitutes etc. These people were provided shelter, food, clothing and Medicare. As years went by, the number of people grew geometrically, it became a daunting task for the coordinator of the Centre, Sr. Oresoa to provide their basic needs. Without any means of transportation of her own, she bestrides and gave her support to the MSPP. This is evident in the movement of the Home from rented apartment to a permanent location in Dagiri Gwagwalada along Kaduna Lokoja Express Way. MSPP has also rescued the poorest of the poor in other parts of the country such as Kaduna State, Edo State and other areas of Africa, Yendi in Ghana. May God reward her effort. Amen. Through its skill acquisition programs, Educational and Health Services, the Sisters has been via through doggedness and resilience by the Co-ordinator, Sr. Oresoa Selo-Ojeme a Missionary Sister for the Poorest of the Poor, Associate members and various groups such as government officials, foreign organizations, philanthropists and others too numerous to mention have rendered support towards the success of this work. Most Rev. Vincent Sowah Boi-Nai, Bishop of Yendi Diocese of Ghana supported the Anawim Sisters to make their dream come through.

A BEAUTIFUL STORY OF OUR LITTLE BOY

 Joachim’s story is a beautiful testimony of love, hope, and compassion.

 

His mother, who was mentally ill and living on the streets, was brought into the care of the Missionary Sisters for the Poorest of the Poor while pregnant. It was there that little Joachim was born. Seeing the child’s need for love, protection, and a future, the sisters lovingly took him into their care and nurtured him with kindness and dedication.

 

The first picture reminds us of Joachim as a fragile baby being cared for with tenderness and compassion. Today, as seen in the second and third pictures, Joachim has grown into a bright and healthy little boy who is now proudly attending school.

 

What once began as a difficult and uncertain situation has blossomed into a story of grace, hope, and transformation. Through the loving care of the Missionary Sisters for the Poorest of the Poor, Joachim has been given the opportunity to grow, learn, and dream of a brighter future.

What We Do

"Anawim" is a Hebrew word that means Poorest of the Poor.

  We are a voluntary, no-political, non-profit-making organization. We recognize the Poorest of the Poor in our society, irrespective of class, race, colour or religion.

  As an apostolic public association, the Anawim Sisters offer humanitarian service to the Poorest of the Poor through prayer, the witness of their lives, and mission, we see Christ in the poor, the marginalized, and the destitute, promoting the knowledge and love of God through our deeds.
